Extra aired Janet’s commercial for her Super Bowl performance last night. A capture can be seen to the left and you can watch it at Janet Multimedia under New Appearances.

Janet today attended a press conference to promote the half-time show for the Super Bowl on Sunday. The show, which airs to a potential audience of 1 billion worldwide, will see Janet take to a 120-foot stage.
The stage will have to be constructed in about 7 1/2 minutes and dismantled in six minutes. Some 350 local volunteers have been charged with the task.
Janet did not speak about the show and simply appeared at the end of the conference to pose for photos with the other stars, P Diddy, Kid Rock and Nelly.
Meanwhile, Janet’s boyfriend Jermaine Dupri revealed to Access Hollywood that Janet could be performing more than two songs.
“My girl’s doing the halftime show. I’ve been to rehearsal with her everyday. It’s something to see,” he revealed. “There are a lot of dancers. But I can’t expose all the secrets. You got to see it on game day.”
However, Jermaine did divulge that Janet will be performing more than one song.
“I heard three or four,” he said.

Jessica Simpson will introduce Janet at the Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday, MTV reports.

MTV’s 12-minute program will commence with a short film, and then one half of the world’s most popular newlyweds will call for the party to start. From there the Houston native will hand it over to fellow hometown favorites Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. The TSU Ocean of Soul marching band and the UH Spirit of Houston Cougar marching band will unite as one, coming with their instruments blaring and feet stomping, leading the way for Ms. Jackson.

Although the bands have different styles — with TSU moving with a pump-and-drive, high-knee marching style and U of H using the more traditional heel-to-toe method — they’ve been able to meet in the middle.

“It’s working out fine,” affirmed TSU Band Director Richard F. Lee. “We have two different styles but we move the same distance at the same time; eight steps every five yards.” Lee and UH band director David Bertman will share the reins on Sunday.

After seeing videotapes of the bands, Jackson was eager to work with both squads so she could bring something new to the table for her halftime performance.

“Me and Janet thought it would be great to change one of our numbers and introduce a drum line into our routine,” Jackson’s choreographer, Gil Duldulao, said Tuesday. “This is different because I know a lot of band members aren’t dancers. So I’m happy to have the time beforehand to teach and sort of lead them in the direction that I feel is perfect for what we’re doing onstage.”

Janet will be backed by 26 dancers, 360 regular band members and a 60-person drum line. Each school has an equal amount of people playing.

“I don’t think the Super Bowl has ever seen a performance like this,” Duldulao added. “The dancing is great. She’s more stylized, she’s more feminine, she’s more a woman as she dances this time around. There are some shocking moments in there too. It’s a lot of pressure, there’s so many creative people and creative artists, you want to make sure everything is different, and I think she’s going to do that. She’s doing her job well.”

Janet Jackson is the top-billed performer for Super Bowl XXXVIII’s show.

Super Bowl XXXVIII brings along one of the biggest halftime shows ever.
Janet Jackson, last seen arm and arm in a California court house with her brother Michael, will headline the show, which will include 3,000 extras and take hundreds of technicians to pull off.

While Jackson is the main star, the other folks on the lineup are far from chump change; in any other venue they would be major acts on the their own: Alongside Jackson on the lineup are country-rocker-rapper Kid Rock, and rappers Nelly and Sean (P. Diddy) Combs.

And they’re just for the halftime portion of the show.

Beyoncé Knowles will belt out the national anthem; country giants Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Josh Groban and Latin sensation Walter Suhr and Mango Punch will perform during the pre-game show.

Although the entire day is jam packed with big-name acts, it’s the halftime show that tends to draw the biggest stars and the most attention.

“It’s a challenge,” Salli Frattini, executive producer of the halftime show said of the finalizing the lineup. “You’re trying to find music for everybody. The other thing is, you’re trying to give the people something they haven’t seen in a while.”

For example, Jackson hasn’t toured recently and has a new album coming out.

Viewers can also expect the unexpected, with surprise performers showing up.

“You’re going to see, really, every 90 seconds, something happening,” Frattini said of the production. “There will be act changes, music changes, stage changes, lighting changes. We have several acts. We’re trying to hit all types of music.”

The Super Bowl has been a star magnet for some time now. Last year, Shania Twain and No Doubt performed. In previous years, such acts as U2, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, ‘N Sync and Christina Aguilera have taken the stage.

The incentive for performers to turn out for the Super Bowl is massive exposure. For what amounts to a little bit of work on their end, they’ll be seen by millions of viewers watching the game.

An average of 88 million people watched the Super Bowl last year. If a small percentage of that audience gets a favorable impression of a recording artist, the number will beat any other television appearance they can make.

According to DJ Peter Rauhofer, Janet’s new single will be called Love Me For A Little While. He is currently in the studio remixing the song which will be the first single from her new album. Peter has previously worked with Christina Aguilera on a remix of Beautiful as well as Britney and Madonna’s collaboration on Me Against the Music.
